If your baby is expected on due date, then this might be the longest week to come an end for you. The last couple of weeks particularly if due date is passed are extremely disturbed for women. Different women have different of feelings in last weeks. There are women who experience some kind of hormonal feeling just as premenstrual tension; others may have some unusual feeling; and a desperate urge to clean and tidy things appear in some women.

Development in 40th Week Pregnancy

At 40 weeks pregnant, your baby is now ready to face the harshness of external world as majority of her organs are formed. The major development at birth time happens in the heart and lungs of your baby.

For instance, your baby is getting the necessary oxygen through placenta until this time and after birth when she takes her first breath, the blood present in the lungs oxygenated and the process of normal breathing initiated. In the initial few days, the baby has an irregular breathing pattern. At birth it would be around 50 per minute.

Appearance in 40th Week Pregnancy

As for appearance, the baby at this stage resembles a normal full term baby. She has grown in size and tightly curled up in the uterus. The babies which are born with breech position have their knees curled up to the chest for a day or two.

40 Weeks Baby Size

Movement in 40th Week Pregnancy

At 40 weeks pregnant, despite of limited space, your baby keeps shifting her positions from time to time. She also moves her head sideways in anticipation to find milk. She is listening to you and other family members from inside and is pretty much aware of your movements, activities and talking.

Common Pregnancy Symptoms

At week 40 of Pregnancy, following pregnancy symptoms have been reported:

Breast tenderness and fullness and darkening of areola

Frequent/Regular Urination

Stretch Marks and Itching

Constipation, Indigestion and Headaches

Round Ligament Pains

Hemorrhoids

The limited space in the uterus is now causing uneasiness for the baby. She has very little room to move freely in the uterus. However, you still feel some stretching or shifting movements that your baby made time to time. Like your baby, you are also ill-at-ease with a disturbed sleep. A lot of questions and apprehensive thoughts overcome your mind at this stage.

Development in 39th Week Pregnancy

The immune system of your baby is still not developed fully. The antibodies from your body are acting like immune for your baby, which she is receiving through placenta and umbilical cord.

These antibodies are continued to be provided to your baby after birth through breastfeeding. These antibodies keep your baby safe from infections and diseases until her immune system start working.

Appearance in 39th Week Pregnancy

At 39 weeks pregnant, your baby now has enough amount of fat build-up underneath her skin. Now she has a well rounded and smooth body. The patches of waxy vernix can be seen at different parts of her body as well. The presence of hair on her head varies from baby to baby. Some babies are completely bald, some have patches of soft down hair and some have their entire head covered with hair. However, the color of the hair is subject to change in the coming weeks after birth.

39 Weeks Baby Size

Movement in 39th Week Pregnancy

Until now, your baby might have developed a sleeping and waking pattern, which she likely to follow after her birth. This means that even after her birth if she used to sleep in the day time, she continue to sleep at day time. Similarly, the playtime of your baby also continues after she is born and many mothers are aware of all of her natures. Although, she has very limited space now in the uterus, you can still feel movements made by her. These movements are usually shifting of positions rather than stretching of arms or legs.

Your due date is just around the corner and the development of your baby is already completed. The shape of your abdomen alters as soon as your baby settles her head into the pelvis. However, if she has not yet engaged herself, she will until labor time. You need not to worry about this. It will become difficult for you to move around comfortably when the head got engaged.

Development in 38th Week Pregnancy

The growth of your baby continues until the time of birth. The fat deposits continue to build-up underneath her skin.

The heart of your baby at this stage is beating at the rate of 110-160 beats a minute. Currently, there are present 300 hundred bones in her body, while the adults only have 206. Bones are still getting harder and stronger and many of her bones fuse into each other afterwards.

Appearance in 38th Week Pregnancy

The sticky vernix still covering her body and the patches of fluffy lanugo left only around her neck and shoulders. The vernix acts as a waterproof shielding of body in the uterus as well as at the time of labor.

38 Weeks Baby Size

Movement in 38th Week Pregnancy

The space in the uterus become limited for the baby to move freely, but you can still feel movements made by your baby. It is said that babies develop a rapid eye movement (REM) sleep suggesting that they are dreaming. Normally, the baby sleeps 60 percent of the day time at this stage.

Common Pregnancy Symptoms

At 38 weeks pregnant, following pregnancy symptoms have been reported:

Breast tenderness and fullness and darkening of areola

Frequent/Regular Urination

In case you want to have your delivery in hospital, you need to pack your hospital bag by now so that you don’t miss anything important in a hasty packing. Make sure that you have all the important things such as money, number of a person to be contacted in case of emergency, address book with you while going out. Make sure that your hospital bag remains with you whenever you go out. Keep your hospital bad ready even if you plan to have your baby at home in case any emergency situation arises.

Development in 37th Week Pregnancy

At 37 weeks pregnant, the growth of your baby is almost complete and from now on the major emphasis will be on the size and strength of your baby. Your baby will develop about 28 grams of fat deposits underneath her skin per day from now onwards. The brain cells continue to develop even after she is born.

The testicles in a baby boy move down into the scrotum in most of the cases. However, there may necessary to have a surgery in 3 percent of cases to keep things right on path and that too before the age of 2 years.

Appearance in 37th Week Pregnancy

Her appearance won’t change much in last few weeks. She already looks like a proper baby, though smaller in size.

Movement in 37th Week Pregnancy

At 37 weeks pregnant, the head of the baby begins to move down into the pelvis area in a preparation for the labor. As soon as her head settles down into the pelvis, the bulge in your abdomen also lowers.

37 Weeks Baby Size

If this is your second or successive baby, then your baby may not drop into the pelvis region until before the labor time. This is due to the fact that your muscles are not strong enough to hold the baby as they were for the first time.

Common Pregnancy Symptoms

At week 37 of Pregnancy, following pregnancy symptoms have been reported:

Breast tenderness and fullness and darkening of areola

Frequent/Regular Urination

Stretch Marks and Itching

Constipation, Indigestion and Headaches

At 36 weeks pregnant, the major concern for many women is the Braxton Hicks contractions. These become more frequent as the due date comes closer. Whenever you experience Braxton Hicks contractions, you can practice breathing to ease the pressure on your abdomen. Last few weeks will be passed in preparation for the labor and thereafter.

Development in 36th Week Pregnancy

The development of your baby is almost done. However, if she is born at this point, she is still considered a premature baby that may require some medical attention for her survival. The fats continue to build up under her skin and her lungs continue to grow.

Appearance in 36th Week Pregnancy

The only person who can tell you whether your baby is growing at a normal rate and is in proper position is your midwife. She will feel your abdomen and see whether your baby is in right position before the labor and if she is growing normally. Nails are fully developed on her fingers and toes. When your baby is born, she has quite long nails, though soft and delicate. The face of your baby is now plumper than before.

36 Weeks Baby Size

Movement in 36th Week Pregnancy

The growing size of your baby make it difficult for her to move freely in the uterus as she has less space than before but still you will experience some movements from her such as moving positions. Majority of the babies move to breech position, i.e. head-down position by this time. But some babies wait until the time of labor to change their positions.

Common Pregnancy Symptoms

At 36 weeks pregnant, following pregnancy symptoms have been reported:

Breast tenderness and fullness and darkening of areola

Frequent/Regular Urination

Stretch Marks and Itching

Constipation, Indigestion and Headaches

The due date is not far. You have already passed the difficult phases of pregnancy except for the labor. If this is your first time, you may find yourself in a chaos, worrying about the complications of labor as well as the role of mother that you have to play after your baby is born. Don’t worry, once your baby is born, you will start learning things on your own. The challenges you face the first year are enough to make you a good mother.

Development in 35th Week Pregnancy

At 35 weeks pregnant, the growth of your baby is slowed down, though she is still growing. Fats continue to build-up around her shoulder areas and other parts of body. Except for lungs, which are still growing, all the rest organs are fully formed by now.

These last few weeks are extremely vital for the growth of your baby’s lungs. These need to be developed by the time of labor so that she can breathe on her own after being born.

Appearance in 35th Week Pregnancy

Look-wise your baby is pretty similar to the full term baby. The hair on her head is thicker as well as longer compared to few weeks back. It is worth noting here that the dark-skinned babies usually have more hair compared to light-skinned babies. The hair on babies head can grow up to 4 cm. The body of your baby is still covered by a waxy vernix.

35 Weeks Baby Size

Movement in 35th Week Pregnancy

By 35 weeks pregnant, your baby has now learned to respond with different facial expressions and body movements. Loud noises make her startle, while she also reacts to the changes in light. The sound she hears is half the volume that you can hear normally. If you play anything to her liking, she might respond by moving her arms or legs in appreciation.

Common Pregnancy Symptoms

Following pregnancy symptoms have been reported in week 35:

Breast tenderness and fullness and darkening of areola

Frequent/Regular Urination

Stretch Marks and Itching

Constipation, Indigestion and Headaches

Round Ligament Pains

Your baby is now aware of your movements, talks, and activities. There are many women who unintentionally caress their abdomen or even communicate with her. It is a good idea if you ask your partner to give your abdomen a gentle massage in weeping, rhythmic movements.

Development in 33rd Week Pregnancy

At 33 weeks pregnant, all the major work is done to make your baby stronger and healthier. She needs to have strong muscles and organs so as to survive in the harsh external conditions. Her immune system is still not mature which is vital to protect your baby from infections and diseases.

At this stage, the major growth and development is going on in her immune system and lungs. The rest of all the organs are almost complete and functional by this stage of pregnancy.

Appearance in 33rd Week Pregnancy

The reddish appearance of your baby has now changed into paler one due to the accumulation of fat deposits under her skin. These fat build-ups not only regulate the body temperature of the baby, but also provide your baby a smoother and plumper look. The dimples appear on her knees and elbows, while neck and wrists develop few creases.

33 Weeks Baby Size

Movement in 33rd Week Pregnancy

Despite of limited space, your baby is still very energetic and active. You can still feel a lot of movements from her. You will notice small foot or elbow pressing hard against the wall of uterus or shifting of her positions when she feel uncomfortable in any posture. You will notice that when you sit in any particular posture, the movements become obvious because your baby is not feeling comfortable with your sitting or lying style.

Common Pregnancy Symptoms

Breast tenderness and fullness and darkening of areola

Frequent/Regular Urination

At 32 weeks pregnant, as the size of your baby grows, the space in uterus gradually becomes limited for her to move around freely. In the last few weeks, the baby usually lying in the head-down position and she is no more floating in the amniotic fluid. If your are told by your midwife that the baby has not yet taken the head-down position, then you may need to encourage her to take this position through different exercises or techniques. There is nothing to worry as she will take final position in the coming weeks.

Development in 32nd Week Pregnancy

The hearing sense of your baby is matured. She is aware of the constant sounds around her such as ripples of digestive system, heartbeat, rushing of blood via umbilical cord etc.

The babies are become so used to these noises that even after they are born, they don’t require a quiet environment for sound sleep. The surfactant is continued to be released by the lining in the air sacs. If your baby is born prematurely at this stage, she won’t be able to survive without ventilator.

Appearance in 32nd Week Pregnancy

Your baby is still not very strong. Her muscles, joints and organs are still maturing. As fat deposits continue to accumulate under her skin, few creases appear on her thighs and arms. The hair on her head continues to grow. The small, tiny patches of fluffy, downy lanugo are still there around her shoulder, neck and on arms.

32 Weeks Baby Size

Movement in 32nd Week Pregnancy

At 32 weeks pregnant, majority of the babies take the head-down position, but there is also a larger number of babies who still require few more weeks to turn around in the final position. Although, she doesn’t have enough space in the uterus to move around, but you can still notice her mild movements. By now you are aware of her movements and can easily tell which part your baby is moving.
