At 26 weeks pregnant, your baby is viable now, this will certainly be an encouraging fact for you. In order to boost up the growth of the right brain spatial skills, you can play classical music from now onwards. The good spatial skills will make your baby good at sports. Although, your baby has a higher chance of survival if she born prematurely at this stage, she needs to kept under strict medical attention in extensive care baby unit with ventilator on as her lungs are yet not matured enough to breathe.

Development in 26th Week Pregnancy

The growth of nervous system continues as the cells in the cortex of her brain developing. These cells are responsible for conscious thought. Like other things, the size of the brain also increases the nerve circuits are getting linked with the nerve cells.

All the nerve fibers are now covered with a protective layer known as myelin which is also helpful in rapid transferring of messages down the nerves. Your baby will start feeling pain at this point of pregnancy. Her eyes are no more fused shut and she can partly open her fully developed eyes. Generally, babies are born with blue eyes which remain until the coloring of the eyes develops. However, there are babies which are born with brown eyes.

The building up of fat deposits under her skin make her body look paler rather than red as it appeared few weeks back and no more wrinkled and translucent. Her skin is relatively less delicate than before.

At 26 weeks pregnant, You can still feel movements of your baby in the uterus as she still has sufficient room to turn around, twist and move. You will feel that your baby is poking the walls of uterus with her knees and fists. You may even be able to recognize which part your baby is moving at what particular time. There are women who feel the scratching feeling in their uterus which is caused when your baby try to grab wall of uterus with her small fingers.

Common Pregnancy Symptoms

You may experience following pregnancy symptoms in week 26:

  • Breast tenderness and fullness and darkening of areola
  • Frequent/Regular Urination
  • Stretch Marks and Itching
  • Constipation, Indigestion and Headaches
  • Round Ligament Pains
  • Hemorrhoids
